Schedule of Events

Friday 30 October
Back by popular request! Day trip originating in New Plymouth through the Taranaki Eastern Hill Country via Forgotten World Highway SH 43 to the ‘Republic of Whangamomona’.
Lunch at the historic Whangamomona Hotel.
Note: This is a round trip of approx 220kms from New Plymouth. For club members travelling from the Manawatu we will arrange to rendezvous at Stratford at 11.00am.
Evening Dinner in Private Function Room at Auto Lodge Motor Inn, New Plymouth.  3 course menu – $59pp. You pay for your own meal and drinks.

Saturday 31 October
Commencing in New Plymouth, we will spend the day travelling around Mount Taranaki, visiting six very attractive gardens, including ‘Puketarata’, Hawera, a Garden of National Significance. Morning tea at Te Popo Gardens, Stratford, lunch at Tairoa Lodge, Hawera and afternoon tea at Openlands Garden, Auroa. Note: This is a round trip of approx. 220kms.
Evening meal is Smorgasbord Dinner at the Devon Hotel, (across the road from The Auto Lodge).   Set price for meal: Adults (18-65 yrs.) $44.90; Seniors $32.90. You pay for your own meal and drinks.

Sunday 1 November
The starts with a short walk from the Auto Lodge Motor Inn to view several classic Rolls Royce, a 1923 Buick Roadster and 1930 Essex Challenger.
Visit Bryce and Delwyn Barnett’s ‘Te Kukumara’ Gardens and Private Car Collection, 10 Mountain Rd – SH3A, New Plymouth. A small but choice collection of vintage and classic vehicles.
Lunch at the Founders Café, Pukeiti Rhododendron Gardens 2290 Carrington Road, Egmont National Park.

2.00pm – Farewells and depart for home or stay on to walk the gardens.

A detailed event programme will be sent to all registrants.

Note: The Taranaki Rally has been timed to coincide with the commencement of the annual Taranaki Garden Festival 2020. The Festival runs from 30 October to 8 November. Search Taranaki Garden Festival 2020 for further details. Registrants may want to extend their stay to visit the many other gardens throughout Taranaki that will be open to visitors through to 8 November.

  • Registration Fee: $125.00pp – this covers entrance fees to all the gardens we will visit, morning and afternoon teas, and lunches on Saturday and Sunday.
  • All other costs of participation (e.g. accommodation, meals, travel, incidentals etc) to be borne by participants.
